Le Mans, former capital of the province of Maine, is best known for its 24-hour car race but also has a rich Roman heritage and many historic attractions.

The splendid Cathedral of Saint-Julien is located in the heart of the town. With its reversed rounded arches, it is one of the most impressive religious monuments in the area, and one of the largest cathedrals in France. Its building started in the 11th Century and took over 500 years to complete.

The gloriously restored old city, is also well worth a visit and was used as a backdrop for several movies.

Le Mans is also a busy commercial centre and has many shops, restaurants and reclamation centres as well as supermarkets and DIY stores. Much bigger than Laval, it provides all the entertainment and attractions of a major international city. It is also on route for the TGV with easy access to Paris and the South of France.
