Places of Interest - La Loire Valley

The Loire Valley, often referred to as the Valley of the Kings or the Garden of France, is located approximately 1.5 hours south east of the cottage. Home to over 100 châteaux, some dating from the 10th Century, the Loire Valley is also one of the major wine producing areas of France.

When the French kings began constructing their huge châteaux here, the nobility, not wanting or even daring to be far from the seat of power, followed suit. Their presence in the lush, fertile valley began attracting the very best landscape designers from around the world and as each king and nobleman completed for attention, so the châteaux became more and more elaborate in their design and architecture.

From the charming, intimate Château of Azay-le-Rideau to the grand design of the Château de Chambord, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The area is one of outstanding beauty and well worth a visit.
